Obituary for Russell John Shelok

Russell John Shelok, 82, of Elks Park Road, West Hurley died Saturday, April 27th, 2019 at HealthAlliance Hospital, Broadway Campus following long illness.

He was born in Butler, PA on October 12th, 1936, a son of the late John and Anne (Musko) Shelok.

A veteran of the US Marine Corp, he was a graduate of Butler, PA High School, and also attended Penn State.

He was employed by IBM for over 35 years, most recently as a manager, and previously computer design and repair.

Russ enjoyed traveling with his wife, including to France where they lived for a year, and Brazil, where he had the most enjoyment. He also loved wind surfing in various areas of NYS and the Jersey Shore area. He was a very strong man, a supportive father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia M. (Morris) Shelok, one daughter, Cherie Shelok of Wichita, Kansas, and one son, Russell Shelok, Jr., and his wife Bahar, of New Castle, PA, one brother, Thomas Shelok of Navato, California, two grandchildren, Elenna Shelok and Aaron Shelok. One niece and one nephew, and cousins also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by a sister, Elaine Clicquennoi.

The family has entrusted the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, with the care and cremation service arrangements for Russell, which are private.

Cremation will be held at Wiltwyck Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Russell's memory to: American Diabetes Foundation.
